New project! Fifty sharks!!
After getting so many comments on how cute my logo is, I had this brilliant idea to bring him into the 3 dimensional world again but this time as a tiny, two-inch, figurine. Now, considering how much time it took me to make the first one, I decided to make fifty, and only fifty, of them. Each will be branded with a number out of fifty and come with a signed certificate of authenticity. How's that for limited edition! Here are some process photos.

Step One. Skeleton
Each shark is built with a rebar wire skeleton and a 1oz. fishing sinker for weight.

Step Two. Bulking.
Aluminum foil is then added to bulk out the general shape of each shark.

Step Three. Fleshing.
Thin layers of Sculpy is then laid over the tiny metal structure and then smoothed out before adding details like the eyes, second dorsal, and rear ventral fins.

Step Four. Baking, Sanding, and Painting.
After baking in the oven at 275°F for 15 min, they are sanded down to remove anything I may have missed in the smoothing process. Then a mixture of paint and baby powder (for that matte finish) is applied in two coats and left to dry. I was debating between making them all gray or various colors, but eventually decided on gray for uniformity and as an initial test to see how they fare among my other products. Maybe later I will do various colored series, but for now this first batch is sporting the color of the very animals they are based on!
